Overview

Cameroon, YaoundeYaounde is the capital city of Cameroon and second largest city in the country after Douala. Major industries in Yaounde include tobacco, dairy products, breweries, clay, glass goods, and lumber. It is also a regional distribution centre for coffee, cocoa, copra, sugar cane, and rubber.

Cameroon is in West and Central Africa, bordering the Bight of Biafra, between Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria. The climate varies with the terrain, from tropical along the coast to semi arid and hot in the north.

The official languages are French and English. Business is mostly conducted in French. Although Cameroonian French is noticeably different from standard French and can be difficult to understand, this is less true among businesspeople and government officials. The main religions are Christianity, Islam and indigenous beliefs.

The economy of Cameroon is one of the ten highest in sub-Saharan Africa. Red tape, high taxes, and endemic corruption have impeded growth of the private sector. Unemployment was estimated at 30% in 2001, and about a third of the population was living below the international poverty threshold.

Business dress is mostly formal, business suits are the norm. English and French are the common business languages. At executive level, Cameroon is male dominated, however, there is considerable respect for job titles.

The security risk for expatriates in Cameroon is medium, but high in the extreme north and in the Bakassi peninsula which is affected by militancy and criminality. Risks include petty and violent crime including armed robbery and carjacking's, as well as civil unrest.

The currency of Cameroon is the CFA Franc BEAC (XAF). Euros and US Dollars are the most widely accepted foreign currency. Cameroon is primarily a cash economy. Credit cards are accepted at some of the large supermarkets and petrol stations but not at most smaller shops and restaurants.

Medical facilities in Cameroon are poor and medical emergency facilities are extremely limited. For serious medical treatment, medical evacuation is usually required. There have been reports of polio. There is also a high risk of malaria and yellow fever transmission. There have been cholera outbreaks.

The population of Yaounde is 2.4 Million (2018 est.), while the inflation rate (CPI) is 0.9% for Cameroon as at June 2018.

Xpatulator Hypothetical Tax for Cameroon is based on the current personal income tax rates which are progressive up to 38.5%.
