Argentina, Cordoba
Overview

Argentina, CordobaCordoba is the capital of Cordoba Province. Cordoba is the second-largest city in Argentina after the capital Buenos Aires. Cordoba is an industrial and technology centre. Technology includes space, software and electronic industries. The biggest industrial sectors are car manufacturing, railway construction, and aircraft construction. Other industries include textile, heavy and chemical industries and some agribusinesses.

Argentina is in Southern South America, bordering the South Atlantic Ocean, between Chile and Uruguay. The climate is mostly temperate but arid in the southeast and sub antarctic in the southwest.

The official language is Spanish. English and Italian (Italians are the single largest immigrant group) are widely spoken in business circles in the capital Buenos Aires, though efforts to speak some Spanish are appreciated. Otherwise English is generally spoken only in centres catering to tourists. The main religion is Christianity.

The economy of Argentina benefits from rich natural resources, a highly literate population, an export-oriented agricultural sector and a diversified industrial base. Historically, however, Argentina's economic performance has been very uneven, in which high economic growth alternated with severe recessions, particularly during the late twentieth century. Early in the twentieth century it was one of the richest countries in the world, though it is now an upper-middle income country.

In Argentina close personal space is normal during conversations and when greeting. For example males may embrace upon meeting. Men will generally kiss close female friends on the cheek. Business attire is typically conservative, dark suits and ties for men and blouses and dark suits or skirts for women. Women are treated with respect and courtesy by men and hold posts at the highest levels, however they should avoid walking alone at night, particularly in isolated areas.

The security risk for expatriates in Argentina is low. Risks include petty and opportunistic crime, violent crime (mainly in some of the settlements in the industrial belt of Buenos Aires), as well as demonstrations and clashes between protesters and the police.

The currency of Argentina is the Argentine Peso (ARS). Banking is on a par with that of Western Europe and North America. ATMs and credit cards are widely used.

Medical facilities are good, but can be expensive. Government hospitals can be crowded. Asthma, sinus and bronchial problems can be aggravated by pollution in major cities. Dengue fever occurs.

The population of Cordoba is 1.5 Million (2017 est.), while the inflation rate is 20.9% (Nov 2017).
